Robot Unitree As2 Edu-U4: Professional Engineering Base with Advanced AI Capabilities and Support for Intelligent Control Systems
Robot Dog Unitree As2 Edu-U4 is a quadruped robotic platform designed for industrial patrolling, logistics, and AI algorithm development. The model is equipped with a built-in computing dock station with a performance of 100 TOPS, three depth cameras, and a Livox Mid-360 lidar for precise navigation and object recognition. This equipment ensures full support for secondary development, operation in the Isaac Sim environment, and the creation of accurate simulations for solving complex autonomous tasks.
Main Advantages of the As2 Edu-U4 Modification
- High Computational Power. The built-in 100 TOPS dock station provides onboard processing of complex AI algorithms.
- Enhanced Spatial Vision and Navigation. The basic configuration includes three depth cameras and a Livox Mid-360 lidar for precise positioning and space scanning.
- Comprehensive Developer Support. The platform comes with detailed manuals, ready digital models, and interfaces for simulations, with full support for the Isaac Sim environment.
- Readiness for Industrial Tasks. The hardware and algorithmic support from the manufacturer allow for the integration of the robot for industrial patrolling and logistics tasks.
- Platform Versatility. The U4 modification fully retains the functionality of the base Standard version (U1), significantly expanding its capabilities for secondary development.
Technological and Hardware Solutions
Design, Mechanics, and Reliability. The robot's base is made of aluminum alloy combined with engineering plastic, providing structural strength with an overall weight of about 18 kg (including the battery). The platform is driven by 12 high-performance servos, generating a peak torque of up to 90 Nm at the joints. The body has an IP54 protection rating, and the permissible operating temperature range is from -20°C to 50°C, enabling the equipment to be used in challenging industrial and outdoor conditions.
Computational Architecture and Machine Vision. The Edu-U4 modification is specifically adapted for AI algorithm development thanks to the integrated expansion computing dock station with a performance of 100 TOPS. Spatial orientation, map building, and object recognition are handled by a comprehensive set of sensors:
- Three Depth Cameras. They continuously perform visual analysis of the immediate surroundings and obstacle detection.
- Livox Mid-360 Lidar. Provides high-precision laser 3D scanning with a 360° field of view for localization and navigation over long distances.
Software Ecosystem and Simulations. The platform is designed with a focus on supporting secondary development. For integrating custom software, the manufacturer provides:
- Isaac Sim Support. Full compatibility with the NVIDIA simulation environment for neural network testing.
- Digital Interfaces. The availability of ready virtual models of the robot and simulation interfaces allows for safe code testing before deployment on physical equipment.
- Technical Support. The package includes detailed developer manuals and direct algorithmic support for navigation systems from Unitree engineers.
Performance and Logistics Capabilities. Dynamic characteristics and load-bearing indicators allow the platform to be used for autonomous patrolling and cargo transportation:
- Kinematics. The maximum movement speed reaches 5 m/s. The leg mechanics allow for stable overcoming of stairs up to 25 cm high and inclines with an angle of up to 40°.
- Load Capacity. The platform can withstand up to 65 kg of static load and can carry up to 15 kg of payload during continuous movement.
- Autonomy. Power is supplied by a 15,000 mAh battery. The range without load is over 4 hours for a distance of up to 20 km, and with a dynamic load of 15 kg, the robot operates for more than 2.5 hours on a single charge.
Applications of the Unitree As2 Edu-U4 Robotic Platform
- Industrial Patrolling and Object Inspection. The presence of a Livox Mid-360 lidar and three depth cameras allows the platform to be integrated into security systems for autonomous territory monitoring and detection of unusual situations.
- Autonomous Logistics and Transportation. The dynamic load capacity of up to 15 kg and high autonomy reserve make the robot suitable for automating warehouse processes and moving goods on production sites.
- Scientific Research and AI Algorithm Development. The integrated computing station with a performance of 100 TOPS, the availability of simulation interfaces, and support for the Isaac Sim environment provide a full-fledged base for testing neural networks and computer vision systems.
- Educational and Consumer Markets. Openness to secondary development and comprehensive methodological manuals allow for effective use of the robot in educational institutions for engineering training and integration into commercial projects.
