PLA Plastic KLEMA for 3D Printing of Models, Prototypes, and Decorative Items

PLA Plastic KLEMA 1.75 mm 1 kg Yellow is a thermoplastic filament for FDM 3D printing of prototypes, models, demonstration models, and parts that do not operate at elevated temperatures. The material exhibits rigid mechanical behavior and prints at relatively low nozzle and platform temperatures. Controlled filament diameter and the absence of complex platform preparation simplify print setup and stable material feeding.

Material Advantages

  • FDM Printing Technology. PLA operates at lower nozzle and platform temperatures than many technical thermoplastics. No special treatment of the working surface is required for printing, and model cooling is performed with the fan on. This makes the material convenient for prototyping, modeling, and regular printing of models with various geometries.
  • Controlled Filament Diameter. A diameter of 1.75 ± 0.02 mm helps maintain consistent material feeding through the extruder and reduces the impact of filament thickness fluctuations on the extrusion process.
  • Resistance in Specific Chemical Environments. PLA is resistant to deionized water, weak acids, and weak alkalis. However, the material has low resistance to strong acids, strong alkalis, and ketones, so compatibility with a specific environment should be evaluated separately.

Features of Working with PLA

  • Limited Heat Resistance. The heat distortion temperature of PLA is 55 °C under a load of 0.45 MPa, and the Vicat softening temperature is 54 °C. Therefore, the material should not be used for parts that are exposed to elevated temperatures or simultaneous heating and mechanical loading for extended periods. These values are not the maximum long-term operating temperature of the finished product.
  • Rigid Mechanical Behavior. The flexural modulus is 2,300 MPa. Such mechanical behavior allows the use of PLA for parts that must retain their shape under the loads provided by the design, if the operating conditions match the material's temperature capabilities. When designing elements that regularly bend or deform, it is necessary to consider the geometry of the product, the direction of the layers, and the nature of the load.
  • Sensitivity to Ultraviolet. Under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, the material may change color. The spool should be stored without prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and for products intended for permanent outdoor use, operating conditions should be evaluated separately.

Features of 3D Printing with PLA

The nozzle temperature should be selected according to the printing speed. At a speed of 50–100 mm/s, 200–210 °C is recommended, and at 100–200 mm/s — 210–240 °C. Thus, the upper temperature of the range should not be used as a universal setting regardless of the material feed speed.

For printing, a textured PEI plate with a temperature of 60–70 °C is recommended. Additional surface treatment is not required. During printing, the cooling fan should be on; its mode can be adjusted according to the geometry of the model and the features of the specific 3D printer.

For complex models with supports, PVA can be used as a compatible material.

Recommendations for Drying and Storage

The recommended drying temperature is 50 °C for 6–8 hours, especially after long-term storage or if signs of moisture appear.

After opening the packaging, it is advisable to store the filament hermetically with a desiccant. The material should also be protected from direct sunlight.

Areas of Application

  • Conceptual and Functional Prototypes. Parts for checking the shape, layout, dimensions, and mutual arrangement of elements of the future product.
  • Models and Demonstration Models. Architectural models, presentation samples, equipment models, and other products where geometry and appearance are important.
  • Cases and Non-Load-Bearing Elements. Covers, panels, organizers, holders, and auxiliary components that do not operate at elevated temperatures or significant impact loads.
  • Decorative and Model Products. Figurines, accessories, decorative elements, and other parts with complex geometry.
