Laser Complex for Welding and CNC Metal Cutting

xTool MetalFab 1200W All-in-one is a multifunctional laser complex designed for welding, CNC and manual cutting, as well as surface cleaning of parts made of stainless and carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, and brass. The complex combines a 1200W air-cooled fiber laser device with a separate automated CNC platform. The equipment is targeted at small production workshops, metalworking shops, service centers, and prototype laboratories.

Main Features of xTool MetalFab 1200W

  • "4-in-1" Functionality. The system performs laser welding, automated CNC cutting, manual cutting, and laser cleaning of materials with quick mode switching.
  • Automatic Welding on CNC Portal. Fixing the welding gun in the portal holder allows for straight longitudinal seams and reduces the human factor impact during serial part joining.
  • Built-in Air Cooling. The laser source and manual gun are cooled by an air system without connecting an external liquid chiller.
  • Automatic Wire Feeding Device. The complete wire feeder works with wire diameters from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm for quality filling of joints with gaps.
  • Pass-through CNC Platform Body. The open pass-through table design along the Y-axis allows processing sheet metal of any length.
  • Control via xTool Creative Space. The software supports vector file import, automatic part layout, and precise laser parameter adjustment.
  • Optical Element Protection. Replaceable protective lenses and active gas blowing prevent molten splashes from entering the internal optics.

Fiber Laser, Processing Modes, and CNC Cutting

The system is based on a fiber laser generator with an optical power of 1200W and a wavelength of 1064 nm (±10 nm). Built-in air cooling maintains the module's temperature regime without connecting water circuits. It should be noted that the equipment's electrical power consumption from the network under maximum load exceeds 4.5 kW.

In laser welding mode, the device operates in continuous (CW) and pulse modes, providing welding depth per pass: up to 4.0 mm for stainless and carbon steel, up to 3.5 mm for galvanized steel, up to 3.0 mm for aluminum alloys, and up to 2.0 mm for brass.

The CNC platform performs automated sheet metal cutting with a positioning accuracy of ±0.05 mm and a Z-axis stroke of 50 mm. The maximum cutting thickness is:

  • Carbon steel: up to 4.0 mm, clean cut — up to 3.0 mm.
  • Stainless steel: up to 3.0 mm, clean cut — up to 2.0 mm.
  • Aluminum: up to 2.0 mm.
  • Brass: up to 1.5 mm.

Compressed air or nitrogen/oxygen supply at a pressure of 1.0–1.5 MPa is required to remove the melt. If necessary, the operator can remove the gun from the portal for manual cutting of complex contour blanks. A laser cleaning mode is also provided for surface cleaning from scale, rust, paint, and oxide films.

Control and Ready Processing Parameters

The touch control system helps quickly set the parameters for welding and other processing modes. The operator can select the type of material, its thickness, the diameter of the welding wire, and other working parameters without lengthy manual adjustment for each task.

Tips for Working with xTool MetalFab

  • Check Protective Gas. Always open the gas cylinder and adjust the pressure before turning on the laser to prevent damage to the focusing lens.
  • Monitor Protective Lens Condition. Check the cleanliness of the protective glass in the gun before each shift. Dust or melt spots can lead to its destruction.
  • Wire Feeding Adjustment. When welding parts with a gap, ensure the wire feeds precisely into the center of the weld pool at the recommended angle.
  • Nozzle Selection. Use single nozzles for welding without wire, double nozzles for welding with wire, and narrow cylindrical nozzles for CNC cutting.
  • Moisture Removal from Compressed Air. If using a compressor for cutting, install an air dryer and fine oil filter.
  • Reliable Grounding. Do not start work without connecting the ground clamp directly to the workpiece to activate protective systems.
  • Test Pass. Before cutting a series of parts, perform a test cut on a small piece of metal of similar grade and thickness.
  • Workplace Ventilation. Work only with the exhaust system on, as smoke, dust, and aerosols are generated during metal processing and need to be removed from the work area.
