TPU 95A Flashforge Plastic for Flexible and Elastic Parts
TPU 95A Flashforge Plastic 1.75 mm 1 kg Black is a flexible filament for printing of functional and protective parts, with a Shore hardness of 95A, high elasticity, and significant elongation at break. The material is suitable for products that need to bend, deform under load, and recover their shape after deformation, maintaining a combination of elasticity and geometric stability.
Material Advantages
- allows for the production of flexible and elastic parts that can recover their shape after deformation;
- withstands significant stretching due to elongation at break of 800–1000%;
- has low tendency to warping and cracking during FFF printing;
- suitable for parts that need to deform under mechanical load;
- combines elasticity with sufficient rigidity for elastic structural parts.
Mechanical and Operational Properties
TPU 95A Flashforge is made from a polyurethane elastomer with a Shore hardness of 95A. This hardness allows the material to maintain elasticity while better retaining the given shape compared to softer types of TPU.
Tensile strength in the X–Y direction is 27–28 MPa, and elongation at break is 800–1000%. This gives the material the ability to withstand significant tensile deformation before failure.
The modulus of elasticity is 6–7 MPa, and flexural strength is 7–9 MPa. This combination of characteristics corresponds to flexible parts that need to deform under load without behaving like rigid plastics.
Impact strength according to Izod is marked as NB, meaning that during the corresponding test, the sample did not break.
The material density is 1.2–1.25 g/cm³, and water absorption after 24 hours at a temperature of 23°C is less than 0.5%.
The heat deflection temperature HDT under a load of 0.455 MPa is 95°C, and the long-term operating temperature is 90°C.
3D Printing Modes
TPU 95A is printed at a nozzle temperature of 200–240°C. A value of 230°C can be used as a starting point for profile setup with further adjustment according to equipment, model geometry, and filament feed stability.
The platform temperature can range from room temperature to 60°C. The printing speed is 30–150 mm/s, allowing the profile to be adjusted depending on the geometry of the part and the characteristics of flexible material feeding.
Nozzles with diameters of 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mm can be used for TPU 95A. Due to the flexibility of the filament, the stability of its feed is important: the path from the spool to the extruder should preferably be organized without sharp bends and excessive resistance.
Cooling within 50–100% helps control layer formation and the geometry of small elements. Retraction length is 0.3–1 mm, retraction speed is 30–50 mm/s. Excessive retraction for flexible material is undesirable as it may complicate its stable feeding.
Drying and Storage
Before printing, it is recommended to dry the filament at a temperature of 70°C for 8 hours. Accumulated moisture can cause bubble formation, stringing, and deterioration of interlayer adhesion.
After opening the packaging, the filament should be stored in a hermetic bag or container with a desiccant at room temperature, protecting the material from moisture and UV radiation.
Post-processing
If the model is printed with PLA supports, they can be removed manually after printing is complete. In case of strong adhesion, the contact area can be placed in warm water at a temperature of 40–60°C, then gradually separate the support.
PVA supports can be dissolved in warm water at a temperature of 40–60°C for 2–4 hours, followed by rinsing and drying the part.
Small remnants of supports and burrs can be carefully removed with a knife or light sanding with 200–400 grit abrasive. For smoothing small irregularities, careful surface treatment with warm air at a temperature of 50–60°C is allowed.
