PCTG filament MonoFilament for printing strong and impact-resistant parts

PCTG plastic MonoFilament is a material for FDM printing of strong functional parts that can withstand impacts and mechanical loads. The filament has low shrinkage, so printed parts are less deformed during cooling. The filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm has low shrinkage, an elongation at break of 340%, and is suitable for use at temperatures from –20 to +70 °C. The material is used for manufacturing cases of measuring instruments, lighting elements, hand tools, and other parts that experience mechanical loads.

Advantages of PCTG MonoFilament

• Impact resistance. During the Izod impact strength test without a notch at 23 °C, the sample did not break.

Mechanical properties of PCTG

PCTG is a glycol-modified copolymer, similar to PETG in structure and areas of use. Compared to coPET, PCTG has increased strength and impact toughness. The relative elongation at break of PCTG is 340%, and during the Izod impact strength test without a notch at 23 °C, the sample did not break.

The tensile strength of the material is 45 MPa, the flexural strength is 53 MPa, and the flexural modulus is 1800 MPa. During the Izod impact strength test without a notch at 23 °C, the sample did not break.

At the same time, it is necessary to consider the chemical limitations of PCTG: the material is not resistant to aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones.

Filament storage

PCTG should be protected from moisture. The spool of filament should be stored in a vacuum container to reduce moisture absorption from the air.

Applications

PCTG MonoFilament is suitable for FDM printing of functional parts where resistance to mechanical loads and low shrinkage during cooling are important.

• Cases of measuring instruments. The material is suitable for parts where it is important to maintain the specified geometry and dimensions after printing.
• Lighting elements. PCTG can be used for manufacturing casing and structural parts that operate in a temperature range from –20 to +70 °C.
• Parts of hand tools. The impact toughness and elongation at break indicators allow the material to be used for elements that may experience impacts and mechanical loads.
• Functional technical parts. The material is suitable for components where a combination of dimensional stability, plasticity, and resistance to water, oils, fats, and a range of chemicals is required.
