Durable PC Plastic Polycarbonate
PC Plastic Polycarbonate or PC is a linear polyester of carbonic acid H2CO3 and aromatic alcohol. It belongs to the group of amorphous thermoplastics, whose common external feature is high transparency. Polycarbonate is often confused with acrylic or plexiglass, the main difference being that these materials are brittle and often crack.
Polycarbonate is generally easy to bend and deform after prolonged effort. This 3D plastic resembles very strong and hard rubber. It is also called a diamond from plastic. Products made from it are very beautiful. The plastic has a high melting temperature (about 150 °C start of melting).
Fluidity is achieved at a temperature of 280 – 300 degrees Celsius. Therefore, this material is not suitable for every desktop 3D printer.
Due to its high impact resistance and toughness (250-500 kJ/m2), this plastic is used as structural materials in various industries. It is used in the manufacture of protective helmets for extreme cycling and motorsport disciplines. At the same time, to improve mechanical properties, glass fiber-filled compositions are used.
Thanks to the combination of high mechanical and optical qualities, it is also used in the manufacture of lenses, compact discs, and lighting products. The material is also used where increased heat resistance is required. This can include computers, glasses, lamps, flashlights, etc.
