The Fuse Blast Large Tumbler Basket Liner Kit is a genuine replacement consumable for the Formlabs Fuse Blast post-processing station, supplying everything needed to completely reline the Large Tumbler Basket. The kit includes fresh open-cell foam panels for the basket floor and side wall, a structural plastic mounting ring, and a full set of push-pin plastic rivets — all the components required to return the basket to factory condition for continued SLS powder removal and part surface finishing.

Compatible System Fuse Blast — Large Tumbler Basket
Liner Material Open-cell foam, perforated
Fastener Type Push-pin plastic rivets (included)
Application SLS post-processing — powder removal and part finishing

The image below shows all kit components laid out before installation: the large circular foam floor disc, the rectangular foam side-wall strip, the slotted black plastic mounting ring, a full set of long push-pin rivets, and the smaller plastic clip-type fasteners used to secure the ring assembly.

Why Liner Replacement Matters in SLS Post-Processing

The Fuse Blast Large Tumbler Basket is the rotating chamber where SLS-printed parts tumble together with blast media to shed residual PA12, PA11, or PA12 GF powder from surfaces and internal cavities. The foam liner performs two simultaneous functions: it cushions part-to-part contact to prevent surface damage, and its open-cell structure allows loosened powder and blast media particles to migrate freely through the basket wall rather than accumulating inside the working chamber.

Over time and through repeated blast cycles, the foam degrades. Abrasion from parts and media gradually thins the material, chemical exposure to fine nylon powder compresses the open-cell structure, and the plastic rivets that anchor the liner can fracture or loosen under repeated mechanical stress. A worn liner creates uneven media flow, reduces cushioning, and produces inconsistent surface quality across batches — all of which are avoidable with timely, proactive replacement.

Everything for a Full Basket Reline in One Kit

This kit is designed for a complete relining — not a partial repair. The basket floor disc, the side-wall strip, the structural mounting ring, and the full complement of both fastener types are all included. There is no need to source hardware separately: the entire liner assembly is replaced at once, ensuring uniform performance across the whole basket surface from the very first cycle after maintenance.

The view below shows the basket after full liner installation, photographed from directly above. The open-cell foam covers the entire base, with rivets seated evenly around the perimeter securing the mounting ring and liner to the perforated metal basket wall.

Open-Cell Foam: Flow-Through by Design

The liner material is engineered specifically for blast-media environments. Its open-cell architecture allows blast media and fine nylon powder particles to pass through the liner rather than accumulating on its surface. During tumbling, this flow-through behaviour keeps the basket interior clean and keeps the media in continuous circulation. The punched hole pattern reinforces this drainage function and prevents material bridging across the liner surface during wet-blast operations.

The macro image below captures the liner texture after a blast cycle: the interconnected cell matrix, the regular punched drainage holes, and the even distribution of residual liquid across the foam surface — confirming compatibility with both dry tumbling and wet blast-cleaning protocols used in Formlabs SLS workflows.

Expert Verdict: Liner wear is the most commonly deferred maintenance task in Fuse Blast operations — and the most consequential. A compressed or torn liner disrupts the media flow pattern inside the basket, creating dead zones where powder accumulates rather than being ejected. The result is batch-to-batch variation in surface quality that is difficult to diagnose without physically inspecting the liner itself. Keeping a spare kit on the shelf eliminates unplanned production downtime entirely. Replace proactively: inspect the liner after every 50 blast cycles and replace at the first sign of visible thinning, rivet loosening, or foam compression below the original profile.
