ASA Plastic Monofilament with Enhanced Weather Resistance and Impact Strength
ASA Plastic Monofilament 1.75 mm 1 kg Black is an engineering filament for FDM 3D printing of parts exposed to the environment, as well as used in the automotive industry and construction. The material is an improved alternative to ABS and combines enhanced weather resistance, increased impact strength, high interlayer adhesion, and low shrinkage deformation.
Advantages and Key Features
- Improved weather resistance compared to ABS;
- Increased impact strength;
- Resistance to cracking under aggressive environments;
- Low shrinkage deformation;
- High interlayer adhesion;
- Retention of rich color over a long period;
- Resistance to alcohols, many cleaning agents, lubricants, diluted acids, and gasoline;
- Possibility of mechanical and chemical post-processing.
Mechanical and Operational Properties
ASA is designed for the operation of finished products at temperatures from -40 to +85 °C. The tensile strength of the material is 47 MPa, the tensile modulus is 2200 MPa, and the elongation at break is 15%.
The flexural strength is 47 MPa, and the impact toughness without notch according to Charpy at a temperature of 23 °C is 18 kJ/m². The combination of mechanical properties and weather resistance allows the material to be used for functional parts that are exposed to external factors.
ASA is also resistant to contact with alcohols, many cleaning agents, lubricants, diluted acids, and gasoline.
3D Printing Modes
For working with ASA, the recommended extruder temperature is 250–265 °C, and the platform temperature is 110–120 °C. The printing speed can be 30–80 mm/s.
The material is specified for a closed-type 3D printer. Model cooling during printing is not required.
Post-Processing of ASA Parts
Finished parts can be sanded, drilled, and processed on turning equipment. Solvents can be used for chemical post-processing to achieve a glossy surface.
ASA products can also be painted and lacquered.
Applications
ASA plastic is used for the production of:
- Parts for the automotive industry;
- Products and components for construction;
- Functional parts exposed to environmental influences.
