LiDAR and SLAM for Mobile 3D Scanning

XGRIDS Lixel K2 combines LiDAR, satellite, and inertial sensors with SLAM algorithms, allowing the scanner to simultaneously determine its position in space and form a three-dimensional map of the environment while the operator is moving. This enables mobile scanning without setting up tripods and sequential static stops. The LiDAR module provides a scanning range of up to 40 m for surfaces with 10% reflectivity and up to 70 m for surfaces with 80% reflectivity. The data collection speed is up to 200,000 points per second, and the field of view covers 360° horizontally and 270° vertically. For optimal point cloud density, the recommended distance to the object is 1–25 m. This scanning format is suitable for digitizing interiors, construction sites, corridors, underground parking lots, and adjacent areas.

Scanning Accuracy of XGRIDS Lixel K2

The scanning accuracy of XGRIDS Lixel K2 is characterized by a relative measurement accuracy of up to 1 cm, which determines the accuracy of the mutual positioning of points within a single scanned object or space. The thickness of the point cloud on flat surfaces is ≤ 1 cm, allowing clear reproduction of the boundaries of walls, floors, and other structural elements. When using the built-in RTK module and connecting to NTRIP/CORS networks, the absolute accuracy of geodetic referencing in the global coordinate system can be 2–5 cm depending on satellite signal reception conditions.

Color Point Cloud and Camera System

  • Optimal movement speed. Move at a speed of 1–1.5 m/s to maintain uniform point cloud density and scanning stability.
  • Closed scanning route. If possible, complete the route at the starting point. This helps reduce error accumulation during SLAM algorithm operation.
  • Working distance to surfaces. When scanning rooms, maintain a distance to objects within 1.5–15 m.
  • Smooth movement between rooms. When passing through doors and narrow passages, avoid sharp turns and rapid scanner movements.
