Formlabs Fuse 1 Generation Flipper/Recoater Motor Assembly — a replaceable drive unit for the powder distribution mechanism in SLS printers Fuse 1+ 30W and Fuse 1. The motor drives the recoater roller, which during printing transfers the powder and forms a new uniform layer of material in the working area.

Function of the Motor

The recoater moves over the working area and uses the roller to distribute the powder before sintering the next layer. The motor unit ensures the movement of this mechanism. In the Fuse 1 Generation design, this type of motor unit is also used for the drives of the powder supply system flippers.

When Replacement is Needed

The motor is replaced in case of malfunction, when the recoater cannot move properly or distribute the powder evenly over the working area. Malfunction of this unit can lead to issues with layer application and unsuccessful printing. There is no specified fixed interval for planned replacement of the component.
