Metal 3D Printer FastForm DeskFab H1 with 400W Laser
3D Printer SLM FastForm DeskFab H1 — designed for SLM printing of parts from metal powder using a laser system with a power of 400W. The build area is Ø100 x 80 mm, and the laser spot diameter is adjustable within the range of 50–200 µm. The printer occupies about 0.39 m² of installation space and is designed for manufacturing metal parts within the specified working volume.
Key Features and Advantages
- Compact equipment placement. The dimensions of the body are 600 x 650 x 860 mm, so the base area is about 0.39 m². This allows for an advance assessment of the space required for the installation of the SLM 3D printer.
- Adjustable laser spot size. The 400W laser operates with a spot diameter ranging from 50 to 200 µm. The adjustment of this parameter is provided by the design of the laser system.
- Automated task preparation. The software system performs automatic model layout and trajectory planning. Automatic layout takes approximately 5 minutes, and a One-click Printing function is also provided.
- Replaceable cartridges for working with metal materials. DeskFab H1 has a modular cartridge system for CoCr, Ti, and other materials. This design allows working with appropriate cartridges depending on the selected material.
- Long-lasting filtration system. The printer is equipped with a Permanent Filter. The declared resource of the filtration system is over 30,000 hours.
- Working with multiple groups of metal materials. For DeskFab H1, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium alloys, pure titanium, and high-entropy alloys are specified. This allows selecting materials according to specific tasks and compatibility with the equipment.
SLM Printing and Laser System
DeskFab H1 uses SLM technology for manufacturing parts from metal powder. The 400W laser operates with an adjustable spot diameter ranging from 50 to 200 µm.Changing the spot diameter allows adjusting the size of the laser impact area during SLM printing. The technology LFPT, Laser Follow Powder Technology, is also responsible for working with the powder layer.

Build Area and Powder Application System
DeskFab H1 has a cylindrical build area of Ø100 x 80 mm. The base plate is included in the printer configuration and is fixed using the Magnetic Fixed system. The working volume determines the maximum dimensions of parts that can be placed in the build area during task preparation for SLM printing. The application of metal powder is performed according to the Upper feeding & One-way recoating scheme. The powder is fed from above, after which a new layer is applied in one direction. The system uses a Soft Blade Recoater, which is responsible for forming the powder layer before the next laser pass. The dimensions of DeskFab H1 are 600 x 650 x 860 mm, and the printer's weight is 120 kg. The base area of about 0.39 m² allows for advance determination of the space for equipment placement, considering its size and weight.

One-click Printing
FastLayer Slicing Software performs automatic layout in 5 minutes and plans the trajectory without operator involvement. The FastFab control software starts printing with one action. The operator does not need to manually place parts on the platform.
The top powder feeding and one-way layer application are performed by a recoater with a soft blade. The build platform is magnetically fixed, so its installation is quick.
Multimateriality and LFPT Technology
The modular cartridge allows for quick material changes: CoCr, Ti, and others. The printer works with stainless steel, superalloys, titanium alloys, pure titanium, and high-entropy alloys. One device covers various research tasks.
The exclusive LFPT (Laser Follow Powder) technology increases efficiency by 20%. The beam size is adjustable within the range of 50–200 µm. The course of laser sintering is shown in the image below.

Training and Research
FastLayer Slicing Software is responsible for preparing models for printing, and FastFab Operation Software is used for controlling the operation of DeskFab H1. The software system performs automatic model layout and trajectory planning. Automatic layout takes approximately 5 minutes, and the One-click Printing function simplifies the launch of the prepared task for printing. The 1-to-N mode and virtual simulation expand the possibilities of using DeskFab H1 in the educational process.
Certification and Safety
The printer has a CE certificate and an FDA laser safety certificate. This confirms compliance with the requirements for equipment with a laser source. The power consumption is 1.5 kW.

Materials for 3D Printing
FastForm DeskFab H1 supports working with multiple groups of metal materials:
- stainless steel;
- superalloys;
- titanium alloys;
- pure titanium;
- high-entropy alloys.
For working with metal powders, a modular cartridge system for CoCr, Ti, and other materials is provided. Before choosing a specific metal or alloy, it is necessary to check its compatibility with the DeskFab H1 configuration.
Applications of FastForm DeskFab H1
The working area Ø100 x 80 mm, SLM technology, and support for multiple groups of metal materials orient DeskFab H1 towards manufacturing compact metal parts, prototyping, research tasks, and educational work with metal 3D printing.
- Prototyping. Manufacturing small metal prototypes to verify geometry, design, and preparation of the product for subsequent development stages.
- Small-batch production. Printing small batches of metal parts whose sizes match the working area of Ø100 x 80 mm.
- Engineering and design work. Manufacturing compact metal parts with complex geometry directly from metal powder using SLM technology.
- Material research. Conducting work with stainless steel, superalloys, titanium alloys, pure titanium, and high-entropy alloys compatible with the printer configuration.
