EinScan Trak Wireless 3D Scanning System with Optical Tracking

SHINING 3D EinScan Trak is a wireless 3D scanning system where the Tracker determines the scanner's position during operation. The system has two modes: Tracking Mode with joint operation of the Scanner and Tracker, and Handheld Scanner Mode, where the handheld scanner detaches from the spherical module. Markerless 3D scanning is available in both modes under appropriate conditions, although markers remain useful for certain objects. EinScan Trak is aimed at reverse engineering, digitizing large objects, industrial design, and automotive projects.

SHINING 3D EinScan Trak: wireless 3D scanning system with optical Tracker, detachable handheld Scanner, and support for markerless tracking.

Advantages of SHINING 3D EinScan Trak

  • Markerless scanning. The Tracker reads reflective markers on the spherical module and determines the scanner's position in real-time. Within the working area, Tracking Mode does not require markers to be directly attached to the surface of most objects.
  • Flexible working formats. The Scanner can be used with the Tracker for large objects or separately for small parts and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Three scanning modes. Available are 19 + 19 cross lines for large surfaces, 7 parallel lines for small elements, and one laser line for deep areas.
  • High scanning speed. The system captures up to 2,630,000 points per second, which is especially useful for cars, body elements, and other large surfaces.
  • High detail. The distance between points can be up to 0.05 mm in the 7 parallel lines mode, and the minimum object size is approximately from 5 cm.
  • Wireless operation. Wi-Fi 6, local network, and battery power for the Scanner and Tracker allow working without cables between the main modules and the computer.
  • Large tracking area. One Tracker position covers a working volume of up to 15 m³, and for larger objects, multiple positions can be used.
  • Color scanning. A 5 MP camera records texture along with geometry, which is useful for archiving, research, and creating digital content.

Optical Tracking of EinScan Trak

In Tracking Mode, the handheld Scanner is mounted in a spherical module with reflective markers. The Tracker sees these markers and determines the scanner's spatial position in real-time, so alignment does not rely solely on the geometric features of the surface.

For most medium and large objects, this allows not attaching markers directly to the part. This format is suitable for car bodies, large parts, sculptures, and other surfaces where attaching markers is undesirable.

Markers are not completely excluded from the workflow. For large objects with multiple passes, the manufacturer mentions Global Marker or Hybrid Leapfrog, and in Handheld Scanner Mode, markers can help with small items or surfaces with few geometric features.

Tracking Mode and Handheld Scanner Mode

SHINING 3D EinScan Trak supports two main working formats. In Tracking Mode, the Scanner is used together with the spherical module, and the Tracker tracks its position in space. This scheme is oriented towards large parts, body elements, industrial components, and other bulky objects.

In Handheld Scanner Mode, the handheld Scanner can be detached from the spherical module. This simplifies access to narrow places, internal zones, and details where moving a large module would be inconvenient.

Two working formats of EinScan Trak: Tracking Mode for scanning large objects and Handheld Scanner Mode for hard-to-reach areas.

Three Laser Modes of EinScan Trak

  • 19 + 19 High-Speed Scan. For fast scanning of large surfaces, car bodies, and bulky parts.
  • 7 Detailed Scan. For details, contours, edges, and small elements. Point distance for small objects — up to 0.05 mm.
  • 1 Deep Pockets Scan. For recesses, narrow zones, and hard-to-reach geometry. Diameter to depth ratio — 1:4.

Speed and Accuracy

EinScan Trak provides a scanning speed of up to 2,630,000 points/s, resolution from 0.05 to 10 mm, and volumetric accuracy up to 0.1 mm. The system supports Wi-Fi 6 and wireless connection through a separate router included in the package.

The Tracker and Scanner operate on batteries for up to 5.5 hours and support hot swapping of batteries during scanning. This allows working with large objects and long projects without constant cable connection.

Scanning Complex Surfaces and Colored Objects

EinScan Trak is suitable for working with black and reflective surfaces, as well as for scanning indoors and outdoors with lighting up to 110,000 lux. The built-in 5-MP texture camera allows obtaining colored 3D models, which is useful for digitizing sculptures, historical artifacts, reliefs, as well as for archiving, restoration, AR/VR, and creating 3D content.

3D Data Processing and Measurement in EXScan Trak

The main software EXScan Trak is used for scanning, processing, and merging data from different modes. Ready models can be exported in STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, and ASC formats.

For measurements, EXMeasure is available with tools for size analysis, GD&T, and report creation. An annual EXMeasure license is included with the system. For reverse engineering, EinScan Trak is compatible with EXModel and Geomagic Design X, which allow transitioning from scanned data to CAD geometry.

Where EinScan Trak is Used

EinScan Trak is used in industry, design, research, and digital manufacturing for working with objects of various sizes and complexities:

  • reverse engineering of physical parts and assemblies;
  • automotive tuning, customization, and digitization of body parts;
  • product development and industrial design;
  • 3D scanning of prototypes, mechanical parts, and equipment;
  • sculptures, reliefs, historical artifacts, and architectural elements;
  • digital archiving and research projects;
  • creating colored 3D resources for AR, VR, games, and visualization;
  • education and scientific research;
  • scanning cars, boats, and other large structures.

SHINING 3D EinScan Trak Package

The standard package includes the main components necessary for scanning, tracking, wireless operation, and analysis of the obtained data.

  1. Tracker. Tracks reflective markers of the spherical module and determines the position of the Scanner.
  2. Scanner with spherical module. Works in Tracking Mode, and the handheld Scanner can be detached for Handheld Scanner Mode.
  3. Tripod. Used to mount the Tracker in the working position.
  4. Router. Creates a separate local network for wireless communication of the system with the computer; the manufacturer lists it as a standard position.
  5. Batteries for the system. Power the Tracker and Scanner and allow hot-swap of individual batteries.
  6. EXMeasure license for 1 year. Included with the purchase of EinScan Trak and provides access to measurement analysis tools based on scanned data.

Accessories Pro Kit is a separate set. Magnetic marker balls 6 mm, adhesive markers, marker cards, fixture columns, and a 300 mm turntable belong to this set, so they are not added to the above basic list.

Practical Recommendations

  • Monitor the Tracker's position. The spherical module must remain in the optical observation zone for the Tracker to determine the Scanner's position.
  • Do not equate markerless mode with complete rejection of markers. For small, geometrically homogeneous, or multi-position tasks, markers can provide more stable alignment.
  • For objects beyond one tracking zone, consider Transit-Station or Hybrid Leapfrog. These schemes allow moving the Tracker between positions and working with large structures.
  • Check calibration and scanned data before export. This allows timely detection of missed areas or unstable alignment.
