IMT H13 15–53 µm: Tool Steel Powder for Hot Processing and Tooling Manufacturing
IMT H13 is a high-strength iron-based metal powder, specially optimized for 3D printing SLM and LPBF. This material belongs to the class of tool steels for hot processing and is distinguished by an exceptional balance of impact toughness, resistance to thermal fatigue, and high hardness. Due to its characteristics, this tool steel powder is ideal for creating components that operate under constant temperature fluctuations.
Powder fraction 15–53 µm ensures excellent flowability during the SLM 3D printing process and high density of the structure of finished additive products.
Material Technical Profile
Chemical Composition
The alloy contains a significant proportion of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, ensuring high hardenability and wear resistance:
- Iron (Fe): base (Bal.) — the main component of the alloy.
- Chromium (Cr): 5.2% — provides high hardness and oxidation resistance at high temperatures.
- Molybdenum (Mo): 1.5% — increases strength and resistance of the material to thermal softening.
- Silicon (Si): 1.0% — improves oxidation resistance and alloy structure.
- Vanadium (V): 1.0% — promotes the formation of hard carbides for maximum wear resistance.
- Carbon (C): 0.35% — provides an optimal balance of hardness and toughness.
- Manganese (Mn): 0.3%.
- Oxygen (O): ≤ 0.06%.
- Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.03%.
- Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03%.
Advantages of Using H13 in Additive Manufacturing
This metal powder allows for the implementation of complex engineering solutions unavailable to traditional processing methods:
- Thermal stability: the ability to maintain mechanical properties and geometry during cyclic heating and cooling.
- Crack resistance: high material toughness prevents premature tool failure under load.
- Printing of complex metal shapes: the ability to create conformal cooling channels, which is critically important for increasing the efficiency of casting molds.
Applications and Examples of Parts
Thanks to its technical properties, IMT H13 is the best choice for the following areas:
- Pressure die casting: manufacturing of dies, punches, and mold inserts for casting aluminum and magnesium alloys.
- Extrusion: creation of dies and mandrels for profile extrusion.
- Hot stamping: printing of stamps for metal processing under high temperatures.
- High-load parts: production of shafts and wear-resistant components for heavy machinery.
Packaging: hermetic container 5 kg.
