IMT CuCrZr 15–53 μm: Spherical Copper Powder for High Thermal and Electrical Conductivity
IMT CuCrZr is a copper-based metal powder alloyed with chromium and zirconium, specifically designed for 3D printing using SLM/LPBF technology. The alloy combines high thermal conductivity (over 280 W/m·K) and electrical conductivity with good mechanical properties. This makes it an optimal choice for manufacturing components of cooling systems, heat exchangers, and electrical parts.
Fraction of the powder 15–53 μm is characterized by high sphericity (≥ 90%), ensuring stable flowability (≤ 20 s/50g) and uniform layer application during printing.
Packaging: airtight container 5 kg.
Material Technical Profile
1. Chemical Composition
The CuCrZr (Copper Chromium Zirconium) alloy has a balanced composition to achieve maximum conductivity after heat treatment:
- Copper (Cu): base (Balance) — provides exceptional thermal and electrical conductivity.
- Chromium (Cr) and Zirconium (Zr) — alloying elements that enhance the mechanical strength and hardness of the alloy without significant loss of conductivity.
2. Physical Properties of the Powder
Indicators ensure the stability of the additive manufacturing process:
- Sphericity: ≥ 90%.
- Flowability (Hall flow): ≤ 20 s/50g.
- Tap Density: ≥ 5.2 g/cm³.
- Oxygen Content: ≤ 500 ppm.
3. Mechanical and Thermophysical Properties
Product characteristics at normal temperature:
- Tensile Strength: ≥ 350 MPa.
- Yield Strength: ≥ 250 MPa.
- Elongation: ≥ 30%.
- Thermal Conductivity: ≥ 280 W/m·K (at 100°C increases to ≥ 300 W/m·K).
- Electrical Conductivity: ≥ 85% IACS.
Advantages of Using CuCrZr in Additive Manufacturing
The powder allows for the creation of highly efficient parts, the production of which is complex or impossible by traditional methods:
- High Energy Efficiency: excellent thermal conductivity allows for the creation of compact and powerful cooling systems.
- Complex Internal Channels: 3D printing allows for the production of parts with conformal cooling channels for rapid heat dissipation.
- Mechanical Durability: unlike pure copper, the CuCrZr alloy retains strength at elevated temperatures.
Applications and Examples of Parts
Thanks to its properties, IMT CuCrZr is actively used in energy and industry:
- Electrical Engineering: production of induction coils, contact elements, and welding electrodes.
- Aerospace Industry: manufacturing of combustion chambers and rocket engine components.
- Precision Engineering: complex-shaped heat exchangers and cooling system parts for electronics.
