IMT CoCrW 15–53 µm: cobalt-chromium powder for high-precision dental prosthetics

IMT CoCrW is a professional cobalt-based metal powder, specifically designed for 3D printing SLM/LPBF of complex orthopedic and dental structures. The alloy is characterized by high elasticity, resistance to crack formation, and excellent corrosion resistance (less than 200 µg/cm³). Thanks to the balanced tungsten content, this powder ensures the stability of thin-walled elements and the durability of prosthetics.

Powder fraction 15–53 µm guarantees excellent flowability (≤ 18 s/50g) and allows for products with high surface detail.

Packaging: hermetically sealed container 5 kg.

Material Technical Profile

Chemical Composition

The alloy has high purity and a precisely defined share of alloying elements to ensure biocompatibility and strength:

  • Cobalt (Co): 61.50% — the base of the alloy, responsible for mechanical strength.
  • Chromium (Cr): 27.75% — provides exceptional corrosion resistance.
  • Tungsten (W): 8.50% — increases hardness and stability of the structure under thermal loads.
  • Silicon (Si): 1.50% — improves casting properties and alloy structure.
  • Iron (Fe): 0.50%.
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.25%.

Physical and Mechanical Properties

The material indicators guarantee the reliability of structures during long-term use:

  • Hardness: 300 HV 10.
  • Yield strength (Rp0.2%): 375 MPa.
  • Tensile strength: 525 MPa.
  • Modulus of elasticity: 210 GPa.
  • Elongation: 10%.
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion (20-600°C): 14.1–14.3 × 10⁻⁶/K⁻¹.
  • Density: 8.4 g/cm³.

Advantages of Using CoCrW in Additive Manufacturing

The use of this metal powder significantly increases the efficiency of a dental laboratory:

  • Chip resistance: the alloy is perfectly compatible with ceramic masses, preventing coating cracking.
  • High clasp viscosity: ensures reliable fixation of partial dentures without the risk of breakage.
  • Easy removal of supports: specially selected printing modes and powder properties simplify mechanical processing.
  • Possibility of low-temperature annealing: allows for the release of internal stresses without frame deformation.

Applications and Examples of Parts

Thanks to its properties, IMT CoCrW is ideal for dentistry and precision engineering:

  • Partial denture prosthetics: creation of thin and strong frames with clasps.
  • Crowns and bridge prosthetics: printing of high-precision bases for ceramic application.
  • Combined prosthetics: manufacturing of complex lock connections.
  • Parts with high elasticity: elements requiring a combination of flexibility and strength.
