FastForm 316L: Reliable Stainless Steel for SLM Printing

FastForm 316L 15–53 µm steel for 3D printing in powder form for SLM printers. Available in 5 kg packaging, it is one of the most common and versatile materials for 3D printing using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology. This low-carbon stainless steel is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and ductility, as well as good weldability. FastForm 316L is ideal for manufacturing components in contact with aggressive environments, as well as for applications in the medical, food, chemical, marine, and mechanical engineering industries.

Compatibility with Printers

Compatible with FastForm SLM 3D printers. See the specifications on this page for a list of compatible models.

Optimal Material Properties

The 316L alloy, with its nominal chemical composition including chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, provides parts printed using the SLM method with high resistance to intergranular and pitting corrosion. Low carbon content prevents sensitization and ensures the preservation of corrosion properties after welding or heat treatment.

The powder fraction size of 15–53 micrometers is optimal for SLM processes, ensuring excellent flowability, effective melting, and the formation of dense, homogeneous layers. This contributes to high printing precision, minimal porosity, and high surface quality of finished products.
