Description
Markforged FX10 Modular 3D Printer
Markforged FX10 is a modular industrial 3D printer designed to reliably and quickly deliver functional tools and parts for your manufacturing facility. Increase manufacturing productivity through on-demand printing of precise and durable, fiber-reinforced tools and fixtures.
All FX10s have composite capabilities, with metal printing as an optional feature. Optical sensors mounted on the printhead can verify part dimensional accuracy and assess device health and performance. The FX10 utilizes automatic calibration and material replacement to provide a simple and easy user experience that reduces the need for dedicated operators.
Industrial metal and composite printer
With its modular printing system, the FX10 allows users to switch between metal and composite printing mechanisms quickly and efficiently.
The world’s first industrial metal and composite modular 3D printer, the FX10 is the result of years of engineering innovation and technological advancement. Built on the success of the Markforged X7 and Metal X, the new FX10 quickly delivers durable, accurate tools and fixtures to your manufacturing facility.
Benefits of the FX10 for manufacturing
- Reduce parts costs by up to 90% and lead times from months to days.
- Increase productivity with reduced operating costs.
- Keep your production lines running with on-demand parts.
- Allows you to replace physical inventory with digital inventory.
Modular structure of the FX10 printer
The FX10 features a modular system architecture that allows the metal print mode to be unlocked by simply switching the print mechanism. The optional commercially available Metal Kit makes the FX10 printer the world’s first industrial metal and composite printer. Reliably print composite and metal parts on a single 3D printer to drive production and productivity on the factory floor.
Metal-enabled FX10 printers will need Wash-1 and Sinter-1 or Sinter-2 to wash and sinter raw “green” parts into metal parts ready for use.
Markforged FX10 printing technologies
The FX10 produces durable parts with superior surface finishes with the reliability of Markforged industrial machines thanks to a next-generation sensor package and flexible modular system design that allows users to upgrade to a metal print engine. A heated print chamber and automatic material spool switching allow large, high-quality parts to be printed. Optical sensors mounted on the print head can check the dimensional accuracy of parts and assess the device’s health and performance, creating detailed images of printed parts for accurate calibration, review and inspection.
FFF with fiber reinforcement
Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) printing technology combined with Continuous Fiber Reinforcement (CFR).
This is an advanced technology that allows 3D printers to create truly durable and accurate composite parts ready for use. Markforged’s dual extrusion system has a single print head with two nozzles. The composite part is created by printing FFF cells with a polymer (such as Onyx), followed by fusion of reinforcing continuous fibers into specially left grooves. When the fiber filament is extruded, the nozzle heats and compresses the material, bonding it into a layer. A strong bond is formed between the base material of the part and the fibers, which can be up to 20 times stronger than this polymer.
The resulting structure combines the strength of continuous fibers with the strength of Onyx and is strong enough to replace aluminum.
- Z layer resolution – from 125 µm to 250 µm.
- Printing materials – polymer filaments, continuous fibers.
- Internal part geometry – closed cell filling with continuous fiber reinforcement.
- Printing platform – precision machined aluminum.
MFFF – Metal Fused Filament Fabrication
Metal Fused Filament Fabrication (MFFF) technology consists of printing “green” parts with special filaments containing metal alloys. The next step involves the process of washing and sintering the raw parts into ready-to-use metal products.
- Z layer resolution – 127 µm after sintering.
- Printing material – bonded powder filament
- Internal part geometry – closed cell or solid fill.
- Printing platform – heated, automatic alignment, interchangeable print sheets.
Repeatable and accurate part printing
Markforged has designed every aspect of the FX10 – from the motion system to the software that powers it – to reliably deliver accurate, durable parts. With Simulation and Inspection software, the FX10 can produce proven parts that meet stringent factory requirements.
Increased ROI and scalability
FX10 runs on Digital Forge: Markforged’s additive platform, which includes intuitive device and desktop software, training, and built-in costing. You can start generating ROI on day one and scale to more teams, machines, and facilities without much effort.
Image Processing Module and Laser Micrometer*
The FX10 has two optical sensors mounted on the printhead. Laser Micrometer Inspector, which checks layer dimensions for print verification and machine calibration, and the new Vision Module, which uses detailed images to scan parts and optimize printer performance.
*The Vision Module will not ship with the first FX10 units, but will be shipped as a free upgrade package shortly after market release.
Vacuum-sealed aluminum 3D printing platform
The Markforged FX10 has a large working chamber that can be heated to 60°C, ideal for printing high quality parts at high speed. The vacuumed aluminum printing platform is also heated and has precision grooves that are laser scanned to micrometer accuracy for automatic calibration.
State-of-the-art filament storage with automatic changeover
The internal material cabinet stores four filamet spools in individually enclosed compartments and supports automatic material changes and rapid spool loading, minimizing the need for user intervention.
Large touch screen
Large 7” touch screen with intuitive interface. Start assembly, monitor machine status, manually control and run automatic calibration routines in one place.
Software
Markforged offers a simple, intelligent, scalable additive manufacturing platform designed to fit perfectly into your manufacturing operation. Our Eiger™ software was built to scale, providing a single user interaction, digital parts repository and fleet management across the entire Markforged portfolio, including FX10.
