Dowell DM 12 Pro Open Frame is an industrial open-type FDM printer with a working area of 1200 × 1200 × 1200 mm, designed for the production of large-scale prototypes, furniture molds, sculptures, and engineering components.
The model belongs to the DM Pro series — high-performance equipment, as it supports high-flow material extrusion, printing speeds from 250 to 500 mm/s, and extruder heating up to 420 °C thanks to a two-stage heating system. The significant build volume allows for the creation of solid products without further cutting the model into separate parts and without subsequent gluing.
Kinematics and Structural Stability
The basis of the design is a reinforced aluminum profile with a thickness of 60 mm, which ensures the stability of the geometric parameters of the frame under prolonged working loads. Precision positioning accuracy is achieved through professional mechanical units:
- The XY axes are based on high-precision modular guides, ensuring smooth and stable movement at speeds from 250 to 500 mm/s.
- The Z-axis is equipped with screw shafts with a diameter of 16 mm and geared motors, providing precise layer step control and withstanding heavy loads from massive parts.
- The table's self-locking mechanism prevents unintentional shifting or falling of the platform along the Z-axis in case of sudden power outages.
High-Performance Extruder
The two-stage extruder heating system is designed for an intensive material feed flow of up to 1000 g/h, ensuring high wall formation speed without losing interlayer strength.
- Working with thick filament 2.85 mm and nozzle heating up to 420 °C allows the use of a wide range of materials, including PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, PVA, PP, PC, PA, as well as high-filled composites with carbon fiber and fiberglass.
- The ability to install nozzles with diameters of 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm, and 1.6 mm allows adapting the printing process for tasks with high detail or for quick filling of internal volumes of large models.
Thermally Stable Platform
Reliable adhesion of the first layers and stability of geometric shapes are ensured by a combined working surface with a specialized heating element.
- The working surface consists of tempered glass with a thickness of 6 mm and a silicone heating panel, providing quick and even heat distribution across the entire plane for easy separation of the product after cooling.
- The working temperature of the platform reaches 100 °C in the basic version, with an optional modification available with heating up to 150 °C and PEI coating to minimize material shrinkage when printing with technical plastics.
Automation, Remote Monitoring, and Interface
To ensure stable operation without the need for constant operator presence, the printer has a wide range of control functions.
- The automatic calibration system performs multi-point scanning of the table plane and compensates for micro-unevenness before starting printing.
- An integrated camera and Wi-Fi module allow remote monitoring of the printing status and equipment control over the network.
- The filament sensor pauses the process in case of the end or breakage of the 2.85 mm thread.
- The print recovery function allows resuming the process from the stopping point after power supply restoration.
- Control is carried out using a 10-inch color touch screen with a clear graphical interface.
