UltiMaker PET CF carbon fiber composite for 3D printing

For easy printing of durable and precise tools, we recommend the UltiMaker PET CF carbon fiber composite. It is a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filament reinforced with carbon fiber.

Available in several colors, UltiMaker PET CF is easy to use and versatile.

The material has the same reliable printability as PETG, while offering increased rigidity, chemical resistance and heat resistance (up to 180 °C after annealing). The printed parts characteristics can be further improved by annealing. This significantly improves the strength, rigidity, thermal and chemical resistance of the finished element. So PET CF is an excellent composite material for 3D printing functional prototypes, production aids, and spare parts in an industrial environment.

UltiMaker PET CF advantages

Compared to other composites, such as PA CF, this material is easier and more reliable to use, has better dimensional stability and excellent surface finish. It also has relatively low moisture absorption, which not only makes it possible to use the spools right out of the box, but also ensures dimensional stability of the prints after the parts are finished. In terms of mechanical and thermal properties, PET CF is similar to composite materials such as PA CF, with even higher stiffness. However, it has lower impact resistance and Z-strength.

The main advantages of the UltiMaker PET CF carbon fiber composite compared to other materials in the UltiMaker range are increased stiffness and thermal stability after annealing, while printing provides high quality and reliability.

Especially in the plane where the fibers are oriented (lateral plane, YZ), the flexural modulus reaches almost 9 GPa.

Showing lower hygroscopicity than other carbon fiber materials, PET CF requires little drying. When it is in the UltiMaker Material Station, it remains in good condition for reliable printing and consistently high quality. PET CF can also be used for double extrusion printing in combination with PVA, Breakaway or another PET CF color. Giving users complete design freedom and allowing them to create complex composite parts without geometric constraints.

UltiMaker PET CF carbon fiber composite is available in black, gray and blue. This unique feature allows users to code color-coded carbon fiber prints to meet specific applications or aesthetic requirements.

The material is fully integrated into the UltiMaker platform with spools equipped with NFC material recognition technology, dedicated PrintCore CC modules, and compatibility with auxiliary materials and print profiles.

For users who require a complete composite printing solution, PET CF is also available as part of the PET Carbon Fiber Expansion Kit. The Expansion Kit includes two PET CF spools in black and one each in blue and gray. It also includes one PrintCore CC 0.4 mm and one PrintCore CC 0.6 mm.

 

Compatibility

The UltiMaker PET CF filament is suitable for printing on UltiMaker S-series 3D printers, and you will also need a CC print core. For dual printing, it can be used in combination with PVA, Breakaway or other PET CF colors.
