Impact-resistant HIPS plastic for 3D printer

Impact-resistant HIPS plastic polystyrene is widely used in a variety of fields due to its ease of use,low cost, and simplicity in post-processing. Most household products are made from polystyrene,including disposable tableware, packaging, toys, etc. In 3D printing, this material is better known as HIPSplastic and surpasses standard PLA and ABS plastics in its characteristics.Among the features of the material, it is worth noting:

  • Excellent impact resistance, ease of use, and high plasticity (more than 35%);
  • Resistance to chemical solvents and alkalis;
  • Solubility in the organic solvent Limonene (purified citrus oil);
  • Eco-friendliness and suitability for use with food products;
  • Operating temperature range from -40 °C to +70 °C;
  • High tensile strength;
  • Low thermal shrinkage;
  • Low hygroscopicity (compared to ABS and PLA);
  • Good suitability for post-processing;
  • Excellent electrical insulation properties (withstands voltage over 1 kV);
  • Pleasant matte white color of the uncolored material.

HIPS plastic for 3D printer: buy

In terms of its characteristics, HIPS plastic resembles ABS and can be printed with similar settings. However, there area number of significant differences between them, the main one being the solubility of polystyrene in Limonene. This feature allows HIPS plastic to be used as a support material together with ABS when using a 3Dprinter with two extruders. In this case, the support structures of the finished model made of HIPS can be dissolvedwithout compromising the geometry of the ABS model.

If you need an impact-resistant, eco-friendly, and high-quality material for printing, we recommend HIPS plastic for a 3D printer,which can be purchased in our store. We offer polystyrene inten colors, including black, white, natural, red, green, yellow, blue, gray, orange,purple. HIPS plastic is supplied in spools weighing 1 kg. For convenience, we offer polystyrene winding onspools of different weights.
