Formlabs Rigid Resin
Formlabs Rigid Resin is an engineering resin designed for stiffness and precision. The material is reinforced with glass to provide a very high modulus and polished finish. Rigid resin has high resistance to deformation over time. Glass fibers allow the rigid resin to be stiffer compared to other Formlabs materials.
Recommended for:
- thin walls
- turbines and fan blades
- brackets, fixtures, and tools
- manifolds
- electrical enclosures
- automotive housings
Not recommended for:
- Parts that need to bend
- Low friction surfaces
- Drop or impact testing
Compatibility of Formlabs Rigid Resin with other materials
Rigid resin is comparable to other glass-filled photopolymers. Compared to parts printed with other Formlabs materials, parts printed with rigid resin with glass withstand mechanical loads for a longer period of time. Stiffness is a measure of a material's resistance to deformation under stress. Due to the high degree of stiffness, rigid resin parts with glass are more brittle than parts printed with rigid resin or durable resin.
Features of Formlabs Rigid Resin
- Use only the LT rubber tank when printing with rigid resin with glass
- Rigid resin prints at 50 and 100 microns on the Formlabs Form 3 3D printer
- Select the layer height when preparing the FORM file in PreForm
- Can print geometry thinner than geometry printed with standard resins
- The resin may emit a light, pine scent during printing or processing
Parts printed with Formlabs Rigid Resin are more difficult to remove from the build platform than parts printed with standard resins. To improve part removal, heat the build platform with warm air.
