Formlabs Rigid 4000 Resin

Formlabs Rigid 4000 Resin is a rigid engineering resin for producing precise parts that operate under stressful conditions.

The material is reinforced with glass to provide a high modulus of elasticity of 4000 MPa. The resin is highly resistant to deformation over time. The addition of glass powder makes Rigid 4000 stiffer compared to other Formlabs materials and provides it with a smooth polished surface.

Recommended for printing:

• Thin surfaces;
• Turbines and fan blades;
• Suspensions, fixtures, and tools;
• Manifolds;
• Electrical enclosures;
• Automotive enclosures;

Not recommended for:

• Parts that need to bend;
• Low-friction surfaces;
• Parts that will be subjected to impacts and drops;

Compatibility of Rigid 4000 with other materials

Rigid resin is comparable to other glass-filled photopolymers. Compared to parts printed with other Formlabs materials, parts made from rigid resin with glass withstand mechanical loads for a longer period of time. Rigidity is a measure of a material's resistance to deformation under stress. Due to the high degree of rigidity, parts made from Formlabs Rigid 4000 polymer are more brittle than parts printed with Tough 2000 or Durable Resin.

Features of Rigid 4000

• Use only the LT rubber tank when printing with rigid resin with glass;
• Rigid resin prints at 50 and 100 microns on the Formlabs Form 3 3D printer;
• Select the layer height when preparing the file in the PreForm software;
• Can print thinner geometries than those printed with standard resins;
• The resin may emit a slight pine scent during printing or processing;

Parts printed with Rigid 4000 are more difficult to remove from the build platform than parts made from standard resins. To improve part removal, warm the build platform with heated air.
