Elastic Plastic for 3D Printer
FLEX 90 Plexiwire 1.75 mm plastic is an elastic filament based on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which combines the best properties of rubber and engineering plastic. The material is designed for 3D printing of products that require high flexibility, impact resistance, and the ability to recover shape after deformation. The hardness of 90A Shore corresponds to dense rubber (like a shoe sole). This rigidity makes this filament more stable when fed into the extruder compared to overly soft types of FLEX, allowing successful printing on most FDM printers if low speed is maintained.
Advantages of Plexiwire FLEX 90 Filament
Choosing flexible plastic from Plexiwire allows you to create functional parts with specific physical properties:
- High elasticity. Products can stretch 2-3 times (up to 300%) from their original size, maintaining their integrity and properties.
- Wear resistance and strength. The material is resistant to abrasion, tears, and repeated bending, ensuring the durability of parts.
- Chemical inertness. FLEX 90 is resistant to oils, fats, many solvents, and aggressive liquids.
- Wide temperature range. Finished models retain their properties within the range of -40°C to +70°C.
- Minimal shrinkage. Low thermal shrinkage coefficient and excellent adhesion to the platform allow printing parts with stable geometry.
Application Options
Due to its damping ability and flexibility, FLEX 90 Plexiwire is widely used in the following areas:
- Industry and auto service: manufacturing of seals, gaskets, cuffs, bushings, and protective boots.
- Robotics: creating damping elements, vibration protection supports, and flexible joints.
- Consumer electronics: protective cases for gadgets, shockproof bumpers, and ergonomic overlays.
- Sports and footwear: printing sole elements, elastic inserts, and gear.
- Prototyping: creating copies of rubber or silicone products for testing shape and functionality.
Technical Tips
Printing with flexible filaments requires special equipment settings. For successful results with FLEX 90, follow these recommendations:
- Temperature mode: nozzle 230°C – 250°C, platform 50°C – 80°C.
- Printing speed: low speed is recommended — up to 30 mm/s. This is critically important to prevent the filament from bending and slipping between the pressing mechanism and the extruder wheel.
- Feeding mechanism: it is best to use a printer with direct feed (Direct). There should be no free space between the extruder wheel and the thermal barrier. Do not press too hard on the filament from above to avoid bending.
- Nozzle cleanliness: we recommend using a separate nozzle for this filament. Residues of other hard plastics can deform the soft FLEX filament and complicate the process.
- Filament feeding: ensure free movement of the filament without any resistance so that the extruder does not "pull" the material — this prevents unwanted stretching or bending of the filament.
- Drying and storage: the material actively absorbs moisture. Be sure to dry it before use and store it in airtight conditions.
